Welcome to Digital Citizens’ Indaba 6.0, we are back again this year with more to share and learn.

The theme for this year’s conference is freedom of information and digital citizens. This year seeks to explore the significant manner in which digital citizens have used online platforms, such as Wikileaks, to share insightful information with the public.

This year’s conference will consist of hourly practical sessions which will discuss the critical role which the latest uprising in online social networks have had, and will explore questions about the temperament of the revolutionary change brought as a result of online, social and mobile media. The sessions will also explore how comprehensive the information made accessible to the general public is in Africa and will probe debates around the authentic role technology has played in social transformation. Using social and media dilemmas which have occurred in countries such as Egypt, the discussions will investigate ways of preserving digital media freedom when the public’s freedom to share information and socialize is threatened.

This year the Indaba takes place in the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 19 September 2011 – just after the annual Highway Africa conference (HA) and Pan-African Conference on Access to Information in Africa (PACAIA).

For more information please download our concept document or view it under “Pages” in the adjacent column.

The DCI team hopes that this will get the discussion going on our site: www.dcindaba.com, and would like to invite you to follow us on Twitter via @DCIndaba with #dci11.

A warm welcome to everyone who will be participating and attending the conference, we hope that you will enjoy the DCI experience.

From the DCI team,

Jane, Elvira and Neliswa
